Announcements and Important Events
Yorktown will host the third annual Creating a Yorktown Community of Caring: A Program on Substance Use on Monday, November 26 at 7 pm in the auditorium.
This year's featured speaker will be Arlington parent Admiral Sandy Winnefeld whose son attended Washington-Lee High School and died of an opioid overdose last fall at the age of 20. In addition to sharing his son's story and the science behind addiction, he will be accompanied by a student recovering from addiction. Admiral Winnefeld has spoken to some members of our school athletic community and has been well very received by students and adults alike.
He and his wife founded SAFE, Stop the Addiction Fatality Epidemic, last year and has been sharing his son's story nationally. We are honored he is willing to help us further grow our Yorktown community as we bring the topic of substance use to the forefront.
More information on SAFE can be found at
Please plan to join us on November 26.
