Fall sports will begin as early as August 5. Families should plan accordingly to ensure students are present for the entire month of August for team sports. All students will need a physical dated on or after May 1, 2019 in order to participate in any fall sport. Physicals can be dropped off at Yorktown or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
Football (Freshmen) - Will begin on Wednesday, August 7 at 9:30 am in the gym. Practices will be held daily in the morning (walk throughs typically 10-12) and afternoon (with gear typically 2:30/3 pm to 5:30 pm) during the month of August. Team will meet six days a week (M-Sat) during August. Tryouts will run from August 7-14. For safety reasons, no players will be allowed to tryout after August 12 and any player missing more than a week of practices/tryouts during August will be removed from the team. There will be a parents meeting on August 7 at 7 pm in Patriot Hall to meet the coaches and find out more about the football team.
Football (JV and Varsity) - Will start on Monday, August 5 at 2 pm in the gym (proceeding later to the field). Practices in August will be daily in the afternoon hours (typically 3-6 pm) with the exception of Saturday mornings. Depending on the numbers of players trying out, new players will not be accepted after Monday, August 12 and any player missing more than a week will be removed from the team. There will be a parents meeting on August 5 at 7 pm in Patriot Hall to meet the coaches and find out more about the football team.
Volleyball - Tryouts will be held from August 5-7 for Varsity (6-8 pm daily), August 5-8 for JV (6-8 pm daily) and August 5-9 (4-6 pm daily) for FR. There will be an all-parents meeting on Friday, August 9 at 6 pm for those who make the team. All players who make the team are expected to attend daily practices throughout the month of August and into the school year. As a team sport where players must learn to work together and perform as a group, players should not plan to miss any time after August 5 - doing so can result in removal from the team.
Field Hockey - Will begin on Monday, August 5 at 5:30 pm at the Greenbrier Stadium playing field. Tryouts will continue the entire week of August 5 with afternoon/evening tryouts (3-6 pm or 2:30-5:30 pm). All players who make the team are expected to attend daily practices throughout the month of August and into the school year. As a team sport where players must learn to work together and perform as a group, players should not plan to miss any time after August 5 - doing so without prior disclosure before tryouts will result in removal from the team.
Golf - Will begin on Monday, August 5 with three days of tryout rounds. Students will meet at Yorktown at 9:30 am at the front entrance on Aug. 5 and 6 then 10 am on Aug. 7 and be transported by bus to the golf course. Almost the entirety of the golf season is completed during August so students interested in golf must make themselves available throughout the month to participate in tournaments and dual matches. Please contact Coach Chris Williams at email@example.com with any questions about golf.
Cheerleading - Tryouts will begin on Monday, August 5 at 3 pm with tryouts for Varsity, JV and FR and continue on Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:30-6:30 pm.
