Fall sports will begin as early as August 1 with the majority beginning on August 5. Families should plan accordingly to ensure students are present for the entire month of August for team sports. All students will need a physical dated after May 1, 2019 in order to participate in any fall sport. Yorktown will offer physicals on-site in May - more information will be posted on this website.
Football (Freshmen) - There will be an optional new player information meeting on Thursday, May 23 at 7 pm in Patriot Hall. Will begin on Wednesday, August 7 with practices in the morning (walk throughs) and afternoon (with gear) during the month of August. Team will meet six days a week (M-Sat) during August. Tryouts will run from August 7-14. For safety reasons, no players will be allowed to tryout after August 12 and any player missing more than a week of practices/tryouts during August will be removed from the team.
Football (JV and Varsity) - Will start on Monday, August 5 with practices in the afternoon hours. Depending on numbers of players trying out, new players will not be accepted after Monday, August 12 and any player missing more than a week will be removed from the team.
Volleyball - Tryouts will be held from August 5-7 for Varsity (6-8 pm daily) and August 5-9 (4-6 pm daily) for FR and JV. There will be an all-parents meeting on Friday, August 9 at 6 pm for those who make the team. All players who make the team are expected to attend daily practices throughout the month of August and into the school year. As a team sport where players must learn to work together and perform as a group, players should not plan to miss any time after August 5 - doing so can result in removal from the team.
Field Hockey - Will likely begin on Monday, August 5 with afternoon/evening tryouts. Golf - Will begin on Monday, August 5 with three days of tryout rounds. Almost the entirety of the golf season is completed during August so students interested in golf must make themselves available throughout the month to participate in tournaments and dual matches. Cheerleading - Tryouts will begin on Monday, August 5 with tryouts for Varsity, JV and FR. If space is available, there might be subsequent, additional tryouts for JV and/or FR. The teams will attend camp and have all-day choreography during the early part of August.
Cross Country - There will be an information meeting on May 29 at 3:15 pm in Patriot Hall for all current 7th-11th graders. Practices will start on Monday, August 5 with practices in the evening hours. After the first day, there will be 2 split practices to increase the ability for athletes to learn and re-learn team drills. Practices will be split based on fitness level determined by a time trial on the first day of practice. It is STRONGLY recommended that you train over the summer and there will be more information to follow regarding summer running plans and local training opportunities. Dance - Tryouts for dance team have occurred. They take place in late May each year for the following school year.
