In order to tryout for any high school athletic team, a student must meet the following eligibility requirements:
1) Complete the online athletic registration process which includes uploading a valid Virginia High School League (VHSL) Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical Examination From [Revised April 2025]. Physicals are valid for 14 months from the date of the doctor's signature.
The VHSL form can be found under the "FILES & LINKS" section on this website, in the black tool bar at the top of the page beneath the Yorktown main banner.
2) The student must have passed five credit bearing courses during the preceding semester and currently be enrolled in five credit bearing courses.
3) 8th graders may tryout for those sports which are not offered at the middle school level and are sub-varsity (i.e., freshmen level or junior varsity level). These sports include crew, football, field hockey, volleyball, cross country, baseball, softball and lacrosse. 8th graders wishing to participate must live in the Yorktown school boundaries and attend Arlington Public Schools.
4) Any student who is transferring must receive approval from the Director of Student Activities or Assistant Director of Student before participating in order to ensure compliance with all VHSL transfer rules.
