CoEd Varsity Cross Country
1 - A tentative spring outdoor track meet/practice schedule has been added to "team files".
2 - Team pictures will be taken on Monday, 3/14 (Pi Day). Students are to meet in the cafeteria at 3:20 p.m. Practice will follow. Order forms for individual and/or team photos may be found on "team links".

The Liberty Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship will be held tomorrow, Friday, 2/5. A tentative meet schedule may be found on "team files". Student-athletes and student helpers have been instructed to check in with their first period teacher at 8:19 a.m. and will be excused at 8:25 a.m. with a bus time from the cafeteria at 8:30 a.m. This is an excused absence. The meet will be held at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex (PGSLC) in Landover, MD; adjacent to FedEx Field. Directions may be found on the PGSLC website. Parking will be in Lot D of FedEx Field parking lot. Student-athletes may leave the meet with their parents upon completion of their events. Practice times and locations for those advancing from the conference meet to the regional meet will be announced on Monday, 2/8.
After several postponements the Liberty Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship has been rescheduled for Friday, 2/5. The time schedule and lineup have been posted on "team files". The lineup is complete with the exception of the boys 1600 meter relay which has as yet to be determined. We will discuss bus time and class dismissal next week at practice. There will be practice on Tuesday and Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Relay alternates and student helpers will be contacted during the week in regard to their role in the meet. The Liberty Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship will be run in its entirety on Friday, 2/5 at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, MD. The Liberty Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet (day 2 order of events) to be held on Thursday, 1/28 has been postponed. The meet has not been rescheduled at this time. "Day 1 order of events" is still scheduled for Friday, 2/5 and a time schedule has as yet to be made but the meet may start as early as 8:00 a.m. The order of events for both meets has been posted on "team files" of the indoor track website. Once the 1/28 meet has been rescheduled and a time schedule is made for the 2/5 meet, information will be sent as an e-mail and posted to "news" on the indoor track website. The Liberty Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship is on for Thursday, 1/28 and Friday, 2/5. There was some confusion in regard to the "attachments" in "team files" from the previous e-mail "news" posting. These "attachments" in "team files" have been edited to clarify. We still do not have a time schedule for the meet on 2/5, but know the meet will start in the morning, possibly as early as 8:00 a.m. Once announced, the time schedule for the 2/5 meet and any other important information in regard to either the 1/28 or 2/5 meet will be sent by e-mail and posted on "news".
The original schedule had the first day of the Liberty Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships scheduled for Friday, 1/22 at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Center. That date was then changed to Thursday, 1/21 due to the forecasted weather. As a result of the weather, the Thursday, 1/21 meet has been canceled and those events will now be on Friday, 2/5 starting as early as 8:00 AM. We will learn of the rescheduled time next week and then the tentative starting times will be posted. The schedule on Thursday, 1/28 will stay the same and the track team members are excused from classes at 12:43 PM. All absences from school due to extracurricular activities are excused absences and all teachers have been notified of the upcoming absences. Posted on "team files" are two separate entries in regard to the meet. One is the order of events with competitors and the time schedule for 1/28 and the other is the order of events with competitors for 2/5. As aforementioned, once a time schedule for 2/5 is made, it will be posted on "team files". All competitors are listed with the exception of relay alternates and student helpers. 1 - This information is being sent to all who have subscribed to e-mail alerts for "CoEd Varsity Cross Country", "CoEd Indoor Track", "Boys - Indoor Track" and "Girls - Indoor Track. We are experiencing a situation similar to that of the cross-country season where our e-mail alerts are sent to the "CoEd" listing only. Thus, if you've signed up for e-mail alerts from "Boys - Indoor Track" and/or "Girls - Indoor Track", please take the time to sign up for "CoEd Indoor Track". This is the only time alerts will be sent to the gender specific teams as all future e-mail alerts in regard to indoor track will be sent to "CoEd Indoor Track" only.
2 - Posted to "Team Files" are the following: 1) Order of Events, 2) Meet schedule - currently lists regular season meets only as invitationals will be added later this week, 3) Indoor meet and practice schedule
3 - Bus transportation is provided to all regular season meets which occur at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center (TJCC) in Arlington. Buses leave YHS from Door # 13 at 4:30 p.m. and return to the school after the meet. Doors to TJCC open at 5:00 p.m. and admission is $5.00 per person. The order of events and other information in regard to Friday meets is posted on "Team Files".
4 - All schools are asked to provide three timers per meet to help with meet management. Shifts for timing are from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. and from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. A great way to meet other parents and to see the meet from another perspective. If you would like to help please e-mail or call. There are still thirty uniforms that have not been returned from the fall cross-country season. Please return to Mr. Stripe or the Activities Office this week. The overdue list of uniforms will be sent to the Activities Office and Finance Office next week. Thank you!
1 - Congratulations to Julia Carroll and Catherine Whitehouse for their outstanding performances at the state championship meet! Julia placed 26th and Catherine was 52nd.
2 - The "fall sports awards ceremony" will be held on Monday, November 23 at 7 pm in the cafeteria. All fall athletes are invited to attend and bring a dessert to share.
3 - Uniforms are due immediately! The majority have been handed in but some still remain out. If you are not participating in indoor track, please return your uniform as soon as possible. Please return to Mr. Stripe in the library. 8th graders - you may put the uniform in a bag (please don't forget to include your name) and take to your middle school office and ask to have sent in school mail to Mr. Stripe at Yorktown. If not returned by the end of the month, your name will be turned in to the Activities Office and Finance Office.
Congratulations to Julia Carroll and Catherine Whitehouse for advancing to the Virginia High School League State Cross-country Championship! They will be competing on Friday, 11/13/15 at 11:45 a.m. at the Great Meadow in Plains, VA. Good luck to Julia and Cate!
1 - Congratulations to our girls team for placing third in the Liberty Conference 6 Championship. Also congratulations to Julia Carroll (4th) and Catherine Whitehouse (11th) for earning a conference medal in the girls race and Ryan Lesmez (9th) in the boys race.
2 - The girls team (Julia Carroll, Bridget Hart, Kathleen Hindman, Leah Kappel, Lacey McCormack, Morgan Pugh, Margaret Ryan, Julia Sachs, Cate Spirgel & Catherine Whitehouse) and Ryan Lesmez will represent YHS in the 6A North Region Champ;ionship meet on Wednesday, 11/4 at Burke Lake Park. Girls race is 3:00 p.m. and boys will follow at 3:45 p.m.
3 - Another reminder for those in need of something to do on Saturday, 11/7. This is the date of the 7th Annual Tuckahoe-ATS 5K. The Liberty Conference Meet originally scheduled for this Wednesday has been moved to Thursday due to the high likelihood of inclement weather. Times and location are the same for Thursday.
Information about the Georgetown Prep Classic was posted on "team files" earlier this evening. Just learned that our boys junior varsity team has been placed in the 4:30 p.m. race.
Two updates about tomorrow's race, one from management and one from Mr. Stripe
1 - (From Bull Run Park) Reminder to all that Bull Run Regional Park is putting up the "Festival of Lights" decorations. Please remind your student-athletes to stay away from those decorations at all times. Thank you!
2 - (From Stripe) We will not have our tents tomorrow and will use the bus for shelter from sun or whatever. Unlike previous invitationals, the starting line is not next to the tent location. Mr. Stripe and/or Coach Taylor will be giving out bibs and chips on the bus until 10:00 a.m. Anyone arriving after that time should get their bib and chip from the YHS coaches near Box 12 of the starting line. This is also where all chips should be returned.

2 – Bus time is 8:00 a.m. If you are not going to the meet on the bus, please be at the meet at least one and one-half hours before your scheduled race time. We will be taking two buses to the meet with one coming from Wakefield. For those not planning to stay for the entire meet and not going home with parents, you may return on the Wakefield bus to Yorktown as it will leave earlier than the Yorktown bus. If you are returning with parents or the Yorktown bus and have ridden to the meet on the Wakefield bus, please remove your belongings and put on the Yorktown bus.

Apparently when the first e-mail went out earlier today reminding all of the postponement of Wednesday's meet, some people were unable to access the link and message on "team news". That message is now available for all, and previously to some, on "team news".
The Liberty Conference 6 Championship Meet scheduled for Wednesday, 10/29 at 3:30 p.m. at Burke Lake Park has been postponed due to the predicted heavy rain and rescheduled for Thursday, 10/30 at the same time and place.
