In addition, it is recommended families sign up for Team App for all sports they are interested in as additional, detailed, sport-specific information is often disseminated through that application.

Reminder all students must register for the 2024-25 school year prior to tryouts or summer Green Days.  Registration information can be found here.

For planning purposes, most fall sports will begin no earlier than August 5, 2024, with the exception of golf and cheer which might begin as early as August 1.   As in year's past, dance tryouts will take place in May, cross country will start mid-August and ultimate will start approximately two weeks after school begins.

Some of these dates are estimated but they will not move any earlier.  Please note playing a high school fall sport requires a commitment to be present for the duration of tryouts and daily practices thereafter.  Families are advised that vacations planned after the start of fall sports will not be considered favorably during the tryout process because there is limited practice time to build a team prior to the start of scrimmages and games in mid to late August.

Winter sports begin as early as Monday, November 6 for basketball, wrestling, swim/dive, rifle and gymnastics.  Cheer and track begin on Monday, November 13 with winter crew conditioning beginning on Thursday, November 16.

All students must register at least two days in advance of tryouts to participate.  Registration is done online only - no paper forms accepted.  

The tryout schedule for the first few days can be accessed here.  Please note tryouts can extend all week for some sports so students should be available through Saturday, Nov. 11 for tryouts.  Tuesday and Friday are no school for students but tryouts will be held on those days.

All students will need a current year VHSL physical with APS co-curricular agreement form on file in the Activities Office at Yorktown in order to tryout/practice. Completed forms can be emailed to yhsphysicals@apsva.us prior to the start of winter sports
